Kilkenny Castle

Kilkenny Castle is mostly recognised and visited castle in Ireland.

Kilkenny Castle was built in Medieval times, but its most important moments have been played out throughout more recent history. The building was marked in Oliver Cromwell’s re-conquest of Ireland in 1650; and was besieged during the Irish Civil War in 1922.

It is easy to notice the influence of Cromwell when you visit Kilkenny – one side of castle was destroyed. Despite this fact, those sections of the building have been rebuilt and the site hosts thousands of visitors every year.
